The purpose of the Independent Business Association of Wisconsin is to foster the stability and growth of independent businesses in Wisconsin. Sponsorship dues are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for income tax purposes. The dues are deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses except that, under the 1993 federal tax act, the portion of such dues allocable to certain association lobbying activities will be non-deductible. IBA estimates that 12.5% of the dues paid by its sponsors will be allocated to the types of lobbying activities described in the new law. The new law applies to amounts paid or incurred after December 31, 1993. |
